Medellin have a population of 2.441.123 habitants and 1.398.877 habitants in the rest of the aburra valley formed by the municipalities of Barbosa, Girardota, Copacabana, Bello, Envigado, Itagüi, Sabaneta, La Estrella and Caldas.

The cordinate location of medellin is  6° 14' 41" N 75° 34' 29" W. The city is located in the Andean region of Colombia in the department of Antioquia, more specifically the valley of aburra.

Medellin is located in a mountainous area, between of the Central Range, the city is known as the capital of the mountain and is crossed from south to north for a river that born at the highland of san miguel, known as medellin river that Change name in the town of barbosa where it is known as porse river.

In the begin Medellin was founded as Santa Fe de Antioquia by Jorge Robledo, the first church in Medellin was the virgen de la candelaria in the begin of siglo twenty took the name the Medellin,the town had a total population of 700 and was given the official name of Medellín, in honor of Don Pedro Porto Carrero and Luna, Count of Medellin who, thanks to his interest in the people, caused him to be recognized by Spain.
